Live-action, animation mash-up
This video is a live action and animation mash-up which is promoted across schools throughout the UK; giving pupils the lowdown on appropriate behaviour while at the zoo.
The script was written by our Creative Director, Stewart and tested out on a mixed age, focus group of school pupils. This provided great feedback and allowed us to ensure the video was appropriate for the audience and avoided being #LAME. Turns out no-one under 16 uses the word ‘legit’ anymore!
Live action scenes were shot by Olivia on location at off-peak times, allowing the zoo to be clear of visitors. Animator, Matt designed a full cast of characters including: school pupils, zoo rangers and teachers. Characters were created to fit within Chester zoo’s playful brand featuring wiggly hand-drawn lines and bright colours. After a few tweaks and reworks they were ready to be animated and brought to life in Adobe AE.
All footage and text was edited and graded by Olivia with animated character overlays provided by Matt. At all points of the project the whole team aimed to keep the vibe of the video engaging, colourful and fun.
For this, audio and tone was extremely important. Voiceover artist, presenter and actor, Kyle Walker, brought a dynamic energy to the script and it was great to work with him again: having previously worked together on our Manchester City Kids App project.
Junior Editor, Ingrid, tied the footage together with an energising mix of music and those all important animal sound effects.
This project was a great opportunity to both work with such a well established and nationally loved attraction while creating fun, yet important content for a younger audience.
