A Proper Production!

You know it’s going to be a good pitch when you get invited to the ‘the bakery’ for a brew and some biscuits!

And not just any bakery at that. Soup jumped at the opportunity to pitch for a series of animations for Bettys & Taylors Group. Think proper Yorkshire cream teas at Bettys cafes; Taylors coffee; and of course Yorkshire Tea.

As you may well know, Yorkshire folks are a friendly, lovely bunch and we wouldn’t expect anything less from family-run, Bettys & Taylors Group. They certainly know how to welcome their visitors too. The smell of freshly baked cakes and biscuits welcomes you like a big hug, while you nervously wait in reception. Sadly the Kaiser Chiefs had gone for a quick tea break, so we didn’t manage to get an autograph!

Fortunately, we won the group’s hearts and warmed their teapots, with our shared love for Yorkshire Tea and coffee (as well as our creative heads and clever animation skills, of course). We were keen to get started on the series of 8 internal animations, which are to be presented to all staff, across the different companies, as part of their overall training.

The brief was to create engaging and informative animations, that discussed an effective and trusted relationship model that the group has used for some time. Internally, the group has a staff magazine with some illustrative characters featured and it was decided to use and expand on these initial characters to represent the different roles within the group.

A Creative Day with Soup and Bettys and Taylors Group kick-started the project, which gave us great insight into the group and its values, allowing us to put our creative hats on and write the scripts and further develop the concept.

Once the joint scripts were signed off, we got to work on the animations themselves. We managed to get a cracking Yorkshire bloke to do all the voiceovers, of course. Think Sean Bean!

It’s been thirsty work but we’ve enjoyed every time-rendering second of it.
